Description
Offered here is an exceptionally nice 20mm Union eagle coat button recovered at Kolb's Farm in Marietta, GA.The digger reported recovering it just off Powder Springs Road.
Fighting that occurred there was an unsuccessful attempt by
the Union Army
to envelop the Confederate positions entrenched at Kennesaw Mountain. This was an important battle of the Atlanta Campaign.
The button
has taken on a dark brown smooth patina accenting the eagle with a soft reddish brown background
. T
he face overall has very nice detail. The back has an early SCOVILL MFG CO / WATERBURY rmdc back mark.
Tice classifies this button GEN215A30 and Albert GI 94A. It appears that a small repair was made to the back where it was likely damaged from its time in the ground. It has no effect on the excellent display of the button's face.
The shank is firmly attached.
