Johnson Bros Old Britain Castles pattern red & pink transferware choice plates bowls cup saucer
Beautiful red transfer old design made by Johnson Brothers in England, pink pieces are newer pieces made in China.
This lot has some of both old and new so be sure to read descriptions.
Price is for one piece in various variations.
1 red Square salad plate, old style,  scene of "Belvoir Castle in 1792", measures 7 5/8" across, old mark in red with crown, then "Johnson Bros, England, Old Britain Castles, ALL DECORATION, UNDER THE GLAZE, PERMANENT & ACID, RESISTING COLORS".  Good condition, looks virtually unused, a few very very light knife marks in center, no crazing, brown stilt marks on underside are factory flaw (see photo)
1 red cup, old style, scene of "Stratford on Avon in 1792" & "Pensworth Kent in 1792", measures 3 1/2" across the top without the handle, 2 1/4" tall, incised on bottom, "MADE IN ENGLAND", good condition, tiny bit of crazing inside center but not stained.
5  red fruit/sauce bowls, old style, scene of "Alnwick Castle in 1792"  on the front of the bowl.  Measures 5 1/4" across, 1 1/8" tall, Mark on the bottom of bowl reads in red ink, a crown then "RD, Johnson Bros, MADE IN , England, Old Britain Castles"  4 are in excellent, virtually unused condition, one has a bit of crazing to the glaze on front scene but is not stained.
3 red bread plates, old style, scene of "Haddon Hall in 1792" on the front.  Measures 6 1/4" across.  Marked on the back with old mark in red with crown, then "Johnson Bros, England, Old Britain Castles, ALL DECORATION, UNDER THE GLAZE, PERMANENT & ACID, RESISTING COLORS".  Excellent condition, look virtually unused.
3 red  rim soup bowls, old style scene of "Chatsworth in 1792" on the front.  Measures 8" in diameter, 1 1/4" tall.  Marked on the bottom in red with crown then "Johnsons Bros, MADE IN, England, Old Britain Castles".  All 3 have a great deal of crazing all over to the glaze but none are stained.
1 pink cup and saucer set, new style, scene of "Stratford on Avon in 1792" and "Pensworth Kent in 1792" on the cup and "Kenilworth Castle in 1792" on the saucer.  Cup measures 3 1/8" in diameter at the top not including the handle and 2 3/4" tall, saucer measures 5 5/8" in diameter. Marked in green on both undersides, "JOHNSON BROS, ENGLAND 1883, (Registered Trademark sign), DISHWASHER, FREEZER, AND MICROWAVE SAFE".  The saucer also still has a paper label with the upc code and, "OBC PINK TEA SAUCER 5.5" and "MADE IN CHINA" Perfect unused condition.
1 pink cereal bowl, new style, scene of "Denlngh Castle in 1792".  Measures 6" across, 1 3/4" tall.  Marked on the bottom in green, ""JOHNSON BROS, ENGLAND 1883, (Registered Trademark sign), DISHWASHER, FREEZER, AND MICROWAVE SAFE".  It also still has a paper label with the upc code and, "OBC PINK CEREAL 6.5" and "MADE IN CHINA" Perfect unused condition.
1 pink salad plate, new style scene of "Chatsworth in 1792" Measures 8" across.  Marked on the bottom in green, ""JOHNSON BROS, ENGLAND 1883, (Registered Trademark sign), DISHWASHER, FREEZER, AND MICROWAVE SAFE".  It also still has a paper label with the upc code and, "OBC PINK SALAD PLATE 8" and "MADE IN CHINA" Perfect unused condition.
