    Description

    A very rare example of an excavated 1 piece United States Diplomatic or Military Officer's button dating from 1800 to 1815.  Albert# OD-3 page 295/6.  This example has a backmark that reads  "  GILT  "    Button measures 22.23mm.    Early style eagle with "E PLURIBUS UNUM" in a banner above the eagle's head.  Button is a bit rough but a very rare example.  This excavated button retains small traces of the original
    gilded
    finish.
