Indian Army Chief concludes 5-day visit to Nepal, strengthening bilateral ties

General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), concluded a successful five-day visit to Nepal on Sunday, underscoring the deep historical and strategic ties between the Indian and Nepali Armies. He attended Ex-Servicemen Rally in Nepal and interacted with veterans and ‘Veer Naris’ of the Army.
During his trip, General Dwivedi met Nepal’s President Ram Chandra Paudel, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, and Defence Minister Manbir Rai, along with top military leaders, including General Ashok Raj Sigdel, COAS of the Nepali Army. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral defence ties, joint exercises, training cooperation, and capability development.
Tribute at Bir Smarak: The COAS laid a wreath at Bir Smarak, honouring Nepal’s Bravehearts, followed by a Guard of Honour at Nepali Army Headquarters.
Honorary General Rank: Nepal’s President conferred General Dwivedi with the honorary rank of General of the Nepali Army, symbolising the long-standing friendship between the two nations.
Cultural and Strategic Engagements: The COAS delivered a lecture at the Nepal Army Command and Staff College in Shivapuri on “The Changing Character of War” and explored avenues to deepen military collaboration and cultural exchanges.
Veterans’ Rally: At an Ex-Servicemen Rally in Pokhara, General Dwivedi interacted with Gorkha veterans and their families, reiterating India’s commitment to their welfare. He announced the addition of two ECHS polyclinics and more empanelled hospitals for veterans.
Defence Collaboration: As a gesture of goodwill, the Indian Army presented Valour Mount horses and Sentinel dogs to the Nepali Army.
General Dwivedi extended an invitation to Nepal’s COAS to visit India, aiming to build on the outcomes of the visit. The comprehensive engagements reflect a shared commitment to peace, security, and regional stability.
